Yoga for Anxiety & Depression = Yoga for Well-Being
Sunday, 1/17/2010 | Stress is a natural corollary of anxiety and depression, and is the underlying cause of a great deal of modern illness. Addressing stress is the number one priority of all Yoga when dealing with imbalance of any kind. Imbalance, whether physical, mental or emotional, builds stress. Even extreme happiness, such as a much-anticipated wedding, can create stress! The financial situation right now is building stress by the day for untold numbers of Americans. But you can do something to take control of your emotions and their effect on your health. Anxiety and depression, which can be experienced independently of each other or at the same time, require subtly different approaches. The main focus of this Yoga Union™ workshop will be to explore what categories of pose can help when, what should be avoided and how to modify. This work is a way of creating what Alison calls "internal sunlight" so needed during the long, cold days of winter. The Yoga Union™ program includes Asana, Pranayama and Meditation and is open to students of all levels, with suitable variations, who would like to expand their understanding of how Yoga can work with emotions and states of mind. |

Yoga & Scoliosis Teens & Tweens Summer Intensive
Monday-Friday, 7/19 - 7/23/2010 | This week long intensive is a multi-faceted Yoga & Scoliosis program for teens. The classes are paced to be fun and less intense than our adult classes, and are sequenced for a young person's energy level. Classes focus on lengthening the spine and reducing compensatory patterns while working with specific issues affecting students with scoliosis, such as balance, proprioception, strength, and back pain. This daily program will help step up your child's yoga practice and provide them with new insights into their scoliosis and movement patterns. |
Bliss and Beyond | |
Monday, 7/19/2010 | Treat yourself to a relaxing and inspiring interlude from the intensity of the summer's heat. This practice will open with a series of restorative poses that are cooling, calming, and sequenced specifically to pave the way for a state of profound stillness in the meditation that follows. As props support your body in comfortable and soothing restorative positions, breath awareness and guided visualizations will help you bring deep states of serenity to your mind and your nervous system. The resulting sense of alert ease that inhabits your entire being will light the way toward what yogis call ananda, or the experience of divine bliss, as the practice culminates in an 18-minute seated meditation. This workshop is open to yogis of all levels. No prior restorative or meditation experience necessary. |

Therapeutic Yoga | |
Fridays - Sundays, 10/1 - 10/3 and 10/8 - 10/10/2010 | Therapeutic Yoga integrates restorative Yoga, gentle Yoga, healing touch, breath work, and guided meditation to create an environment that supports the body, mind, and spirit in the process of healing. We are all healing on some level, whether psychologically, emotionally, or physically. This truly holistic practice dissolves those distinctions as it guides us to a sense of wholeness. The word healing refers to the process of reuniting, restoring, returning, to oneness. Therapeutic Yoga gives us tools to facilitate that process and a framework to let our intuition guide us as to how best to use them— for ourselves and for sharing the work with others. This training is a continuing education course for those who have already received a degree or certification in their chosen field. In particular, the course is geared toward physical therapists, occupational therapists, acupuncturists, massage therapists, registered nurses, doctors, and certified Yoga teachers. If you follow some other vocation or do not yet have a degree or certification, please contact us for approval prior to enrolling. |
