Red Lotus Kokeshi

A limited edition print of this Red Lotus Kokeshi by Maeve Donohue is irresistable. Isn't she cute?

The artist's description of the symbolism, etc. is good:

"The Lotus flower is held sacred in the Hindu, Buddhist, and Egyptian religions. The Lotus is a type of water lily, which rises from muddy waters to blossom, making it a symbol of purity and resurrection. In Buddhism the Red Lotus symbolizes the original nature of the heart (hrdaya). It is the lotus of love, compassion, passion, activity and all the qualities of the heart.
