Many senior citizens have trouble with balance, walking and other activities of daily life. Yoga can help—not only with ease of movement and better balance—but also many health conditions or chronic pain. You may want to take Yoga, but worry that standard classes may be too strenuous for you or will aggravate your condition, but this class focuses on moving in a slow, pleasurable way—where you are free to improvise and adapt poses to fit your own body. Gentle Yoga - A Breath Centered Practice A thoughtfully constructed practice adapted to the needs of the student, taught by Carl Horowitz. Gentle Iyengar Yoga

A softer, slower paced, less rigorous class for new or experienced students of all ages. This class is excellent for those just getting back to Yoga or fitness or just starting out. Also for those with injuries or physical conditions ruling out other classes. The supported modification of all asanas (poses) makes this class excellent for "bad backs" and pregnant women.

 
Restorative

A gentle, healing class designed to release deep layers of tension stored in the physical and energetic body. A combination of props, essential oils, and hands on adjustments are used in poses held for 10 minutes or longer, allowing the nervous system to relax and the cells to regenerate. Yoga & Scoliosis Level II
7:15 - 8:45 p.m. Mondays at Yoga Union with Deborah Wolk

For students with mature yoga practice or who have been taking the Yoga & Scoliosis class on a regular basis for a minimum of 1 year. We will be working with prescriptive sequences given by the Iyengars and others to people with scoliosis. Our first sequence will be taken from BKS Iyengar's sequence in Light On Yoga. All poses will be modified with props and awareness techniques so everyone can move ahead in the sequence even into the more difficult poses. We will also have an emphasis in this class of learning ways to practice inversions. Yoga Union is the first center to focus on backcare and scoliosis.
