Middle Path Yoga - Basic 1 with Restorative
10:00 - 11:15 a.m. Saturdays at Yoga in Tribeca with Carolyn Oberst a very basic class for beginners, or people who want a slower, more relaxed class, that includes gentle, restorative poses using props - All classes include time for meditation and deep relaxation. New students are requested to call before coming to their first class. The Middle Path Yoga combines repetition with enough variety to keep the class interesting and informative. Students are encouraged to advance their practice as they are ready, and are offered more challenging variations as their skill increases. Props are used only as necessary for the individual student. Everyone is doing the same pose but not necessarily with the same props, or with props at all. Within the group, each student is treated as a unique individual. The poses are adapted to fit the person, the person is not forced to fit a variation of the pose that is not right for them at that moment. Middle Path Yoga also stresses the importance of breathing. Students learn to breath as they move, doing postures, and also learn sitting breathing techniques that can be used for stimulation and others that are used for meditation. Students learn how to adapt their breathing according to what they're trying to do. Over time, students become educated in many aspects of what it means to practice yoga. |

YOGA & SCOLIOSIS for students with Harrington Rods & Surgical Fusions 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. Saturdays at Yoga Union with Deborah Wolk Because of the contraindications with Harrington Rods and other instrumentation, being in a general class — even one focused on scoliosis or back problems — can be frustrating. This class will cover all of the principles and poses of the Yoga & Scoliosis classes but without twists, convex forward bending, backbending. The practice will help strengthen the muscles around the fusion in an aligned manner and bring stability to hypermobile joints or open up areas which are very stiff—without destabilizing the body or the rod or instrumentation itself. Yoga Union is the first center to focus on backcare and scoliosis. I'll be happy to answer any of your questions. 212-532-1512 |

This deep, passive practice settles you into poses for 3-10 minutes, bringing you inward. This practice increases flexibility, especially in the spine and hips and is very restorative and rehabilitative for the joints and muscles. Psychologically, it connects you to your intuitive and creative self. It is an excellent complement to other Yoga or Core Fusion classes. This class is appropriate for men and women of all ages, fitness and flexibility levels.
