9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
at Yoga Union
in Manhattan
32 West 28th St. (between Broadway and 6th Ave.)
with Alison West

Stress is a natural corollary of anxiety and depression, and is the underlying cause of a great deal of modern illness. Addressing stress is the number one priority of all Yoga when dealing with imbalance of any kind. Imbalance, whether physical, mental or emotional, builds stress. Even extreme happiness, such as a much-anticipated wedding, can create stress! The financial situation right now is building stress by the day for untold numbers of Americans. But you can do something to take control of your emotions and their effect on your health. Anxiety and depression, which can be experienced independently of each other or at the same time, require subtly different approaches. The main focus of this Yoga Union™ workshop will be to explore what categories of pose can help when, what should be avoided and how to modify. This work is a way of creating what Alison calls "internal sunlight" so needed during the long, cold days of winter. The Yoga Union™ program includes Asana, Pranayama and Meditation and is open to students of all levels, with suitable variations, who would like to expand their understanding of how Yoga can work with emotions and states of mind.

Through a safe approach, Elise will guide you through a series of backbends that will bring openness to your body, joy to your heart and enthusiasm to continue this practice for a lifetime. Elise's joyous personality and ease of communication endear her to students with a teaching style that is down-to-earth, precise, and nurturing. All aspects of the subject will be covered, including the physiology of relaxation, the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects, special poses for menstruation, pregnancy and menopause, and how to sequence and teach a class in Restorative yoga. At this time, more than 800 teachers have been trained in Restorative yoga in the United States, Japan, Canada and England. We work very hard in our lives, and while we may sleep, we rarely take time to rest. Restorative yoga poses help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely, During deep relaxation, all the organ systems of the body are benefited, and a few of the measurable results of relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure and the improvement of immune function, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility elimination, and the reduction of muscle tension and generalized fatigue. This training with Judith Hanson Lasater is for teachers who want to learn how to teach restorative yoga and to become a Relax and Renew Trainer®. To become a Relax and Renew Trainer® it is necessary to: attend all class sessions during the week (no exceptions), submit a paper (which will be assigned in the workshop), submit three cases studies directly to Judith Hanson Lasater within one month of completing the workshop, and submit a one time payment of $100 to Judith Hanson Lasater. Upon the successful completion of all requirements, you will be able to call yourself a Relax and Renew Trainer® for the next three years. It is also possible to take the workshop just for personal learning without fulfilling the extra requirements for the Relax and Renew Trainer®. Please bring a digital or disposable camera to the workshop. This will help immensely as you take notes. Early registration is strongly recommended. back care yoga Yoga for Scoliosis

Saturday - Sunday, 9/11 - 9/12/2010
1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
at YogaWorks Downtown
in Manhattan
138 5th Ave. (between 18th and 19th St.)
with Elise Miller

This internationally acclaimed workshop is open to anyone who is currently a yoga student and is familiar with the basic yoga poses to address their scoliosis. This is also an ideal workshop designed for teachers who wish to learn more about how to teach students with scoliosis. Teachers are invited to bring their students with scoliosis so that both will have the opportunity to work together under Elise's guidance. If teachers have completed the other part of the scoliosis workshop with Elise, this 10 hour workshop will complete the 20 hour course requirement to enter Elise's Yoga for Scoliosis Practicum Training Program. See http://www.yogaforscoliosis.com/YFS_TeacherTraining.htm for more details.
